ALEX BELLOS

Mathematician, Writer, journalist

Supply chains will be controlled by a mix of technology, AI and human brain power. And it's a common challenge that non-supply chain functions don't want to get into the numbers - visuals express it better. So how do we think about numbers, and why?

Alex Bellos is the author of several bestselling books on maths, puzzles and football. He studied mathematics and philosophy at Oxford before training as a journalist, working for various national papers before ending up as South America Correspondent for the Guardian between 1998-2003. His books, including Alex’s Adventures in Numberland, Alex Through the Looking Glass and Can You Solve My Problems? have sold more than a million copies worldwide. He has a puzzle column in the Guardian and his YouTube clips have received more than 25 million views. Alex’s other books include Futebol: The Brazilian Way of Life and the children’s book series Football School, which explains the world through football. In 2006 he ghostwrote Pelé’s autobiography.

EMMA DUTTON, MBE

Ex Military Intelligence Officer, MD of AIG

Supply Chain professionals often have to battle to understand, manage and apply rational thought to commercial supply decisions. This requires tact, the ability to persuade, and the skills to influence senior decision makers. Emma Dutton joins us to explain how we can do these things with greater effect.

Emma served as an Engineer Officer in the RAF before transitioning to the influence capability of Military Intelligence. Over five tours of Afghanistan, she was placed in leadership and governance roles, leading teams to collect life-saving information. After a realisation that she was using the same influence skill set and methodology in her interactions with politicians and military commanders as she was with the Taliban, Emma co-founded the Applied Influence Group. She was honoured with an MBE in 2015 for her service in Afghanistan.

“Thanks again for inviting me, it was great attending to meet colleagues from other industries and to chat about common challenges. Will definitely join next time and would maybe bring my logistic colleagues…liked the setting with small groups & round tables, great program as well location and catering.”

CM, Campari Group

“Am so pleased I managed to finally make one of your events. I found it really useful, and refreshingly different from other ones I’ve attended. I liked the roundtable style – interesting, beneficial, allowed for more brainstorming and gave much greater food for thought to take back to our day to day businesses. Excellent, engaging, entertaining speakers and subjects that help break up the ‘supply chain’ element of the day but give you more strategic business perspective considerations.

NM, Zonal

"Thank you very much for hosting a great session last week. A really great opportunity to have some round table discussions on topics front of mind, to get different perspectives and hear experience of deploying different technologies. The guest speakers were excellent too, good to break the day up with some completely different topics."

AS, Nestlé
